On the corner of Minnesota St. and S. Coast Hwy in Oceanside, looking through the window beyond the black and white striped curtains, is a place filled with beautiful art, music, and a unique group of beautiful people with passion and joy.  I am sitting here with Desiree Dawn Kuhn, part owner of Swiv Takle Circus.  We are sitting here at Swiv with a cup a tea on a bright, fresh morning in the dirty O...

Rochelle:  What is Swiv Tackle Circus all about?

Desiree: We are a group of artists that built a creative world for our fellow artists, our community and our world.  Swiv is something that promotes unity, creativity and culture. It’s important for us to have our vocation be our passion.

Rochelle:  I noticed Blackass, riding a bike outside playing music.
Desiree:  (Laughs), Yes!  I know!  He is our resident DJ, our insanely talented designer, builder, backstage artist and Master of the Swiv language.

Rochelle:  Swiv Tackle Circus. What is that?
Desiree: It is a Gallertique, a fusion of a gallery and a boutique.  Swiv is for new days of living, embracing your inner glide.  Tackle is short for spectacular!  Circus stands for unity, community, fun, performance, joy, freedom, and art.  We all bring something to the table and it makes for a good mix of vision, fine art and the modern day world.
Rochelle:  Who is all?  Shaney jo Darden, the fine art curator and over-all Swiv Maestro.
She has a huge roster of artists in which to choose.  Blackass is the resident DJ & “shop guy”.  He’s a Swiv genius out of this world.
I do the PR,, marketing, art dealing and artist management.
Kirsten Kuhn, keeps the books.

Rochelle:  You have an array of T Shirts in the Gallery.
Desiree:  Yes, we carry local and international friends, like Obey and Pony Attack!!,
Lewsader, Lovewright Co., Pink Pistol and more.  We are thrilled to premier William Attaway’s Collection II for Lewsader, encompassing 3 tee shirt designs all with limited edition with a real Attaway canvas swatch stitched on each one.

Stepping behind Swiv, we find four studio artists spaces and three are still for rent; there is a blog, on swivtacklecircus.blogspot.com.  It is also home for Keep A Breast.

Two spaces are occupied, one by Brandon Lomax who is a talented illustrator pushing boundaries in his artwork.  We are seeing new things from him all the time.  I can see the influence of Swiv in his work and I’m looking forward to seeing the direction his illin’ illies will take.

Rochelle:  Regarding William Attaway tell me how you feel about his work?
Desiree: His work is powerful.  On another level, inspiring, beautiful, strong in presence yet amazingly approachable.  His work crosses cultures and boarders, a hybrid of European, African, Ethiopian, Venice street art, you can see it in the bulbous, curvaceous figures seemingly floating in mid air.  They find their balance, attracting the viewer to a sensation of utter purity and inner light.  The paintings seem to glow from within, each contour line like velvet on the canvas.  The sculptures are solid, strong, raw and smooth, weighing up to 1,000 lbs of ceramic vessels sculpted by Attaway’s own two hands.  It is awe-inspiring to see these close up, as they are formed, cut, painted and handled by one talented man.

William Attaway’s final showing is tonight at Swiv.  Reggae musician, David Kirton, will be playing as well.  Stop by and check it out.

Here is a great one for you; this Saturday October 11th ASEC is launching our inaugural “RAD" (Roll AnythingDay). This is a holiday dedicated to leaving behind cars, motorcycles, busses or whatever gas guzzling, veggie oil burning, natural gas farting device you or your parents are using and going out on the town Rolling your Skateboard, Bike or what ever form of “Non-Motorized Transportation” you choose. Go out and explore your city, Parks or Mountains, hang out with your friends and family or go see how many spots you can hit or shops you can check out in a day.

Break a sweat, work up an appetite and Roll to any Chipotle in California between 11-3PM and get a FREE Burrito-FREE Burrito-FREE Burrito-FREE! If you have never checked out Chipotle before you need to, they make the tastiest Mexican Food I have ever had, no joke just ask Danny Way, Bob Burnquist or anyone else who grubs there all of the time (they pay, they are not sponsored). They are the most natural and environmentally responsible fast food chain in America and they use naturally raised chicken & pork, locally sourced & organic veggies and really care about the Planet. Oh Yeah, they are not owned by McDonalds (that is another story, they used to be an investor but have nothing to do with them now, it was a dream situation). So go out & Roll your butt to Chipotle to get a Free Burrito or Roll to your friend’s house to hang out, it doesn't matter where you go, just Roll.

Here is the link to find the Chipotle nearest to you Chipotle Store Locator or type in http://www.chipotle.com/?#flash/restaurants_locations

Here is the link to go to the ASEC Website http://asecaction.org/v2/asecnews/ where you can read more about RAD and all of the other RAD stuff we got goin on, Enjoy the Roll!

Post your rolls on YouTube or somewhere else on the web and we will put them on our website, or you can write us, send photos or whatever way you want to communicate your Roll to the world to RAD@asecaction.org and we will show the world how you Roll!

Thank You for doing your part to create a better world, now get out & Roll!

Sincerely, Your ASEC Posse Bob Burnquist, Danny Way, Jen O'Brien, Geoff Rowley, Rob Machado, Rochelle Ballard, Greg Lutzka, Bucky Lasek, Amy Caron, Jamie Bestwick, Mat Hoffman, Kevin Robinson, Cara Beth Burnside, Daniel Dhers, Forrest Shearer, Chanelle Sladics, Vanessa Torres, Frank Scura & thousands of other riders & people who love to ride, roll and eat FREE BURRITO'S.
