Thanks for asking, but unfortunately this weekend was a big disappointment.
I messed up the threads on a wheel stud Friday which delayed our leaving for the track and kept me from being able to do the test and tune that night. Then on Saturday I was plagued with electrical gremlins that I thought we had fixed at the last race. So Saturday's practice and qualifying were both spent just trying to keep the car running but I finally had to bring it in after just six laps of qualifying. Fortunately after a few hours of trouble shooting Saturday evening we finally found the source of my electrical issues - a bad relay. So Sunday I was psyched because the car was running great, but...three laps into the race the car started filling with smoke. I thought the exhaust was rubbing against the tunnel and that I was catching the paint on fire...HELP ME OPRAH!! I continued a few more laps before my oil pressure dropped and I brought it in. Turns out my oil pressure gauge fitting had worked itself loose from the block and I was dumping oil onto the hot exhaust - thus the smoke. I don't think I did any damage to the motor but we'll see. I was really disappointed because Mid-Ohio is a fun track and I was anxious to spend some time learning the track, but it's kinda hard to do that six laps at a time... :( |
